ED 508 Curriculum Alignments for English Language Development ( August 4, 6, 9 2010)

Description: This course is designed for teachers of English Language development to align their state adopted ESL materials within an instructional framework of English Language Development.

Students will complete a yearlong planning map and design ELD lessons that teach language functions and grammatical forms in real life contexts. ELD lessons will include structured oral language practice, listening, reading and writing.

Prerequisites: Participants must have completed a 20-hour Systematic English Language Development Institute.

Castillo to speak to area education leaders July 26

Oregon Superintendent of Public Instruction Susan Castillo will speak to area school administrators about the state’s education budget crisis during the second annual Eastern Oregon Executive Summit July 26 at the Umatilla-Morrow Education Service District.** Castillo’s presentation is the kick-off of the two-day conference for the area’s top school officials. The Summit serves to bring together school executives from around eastern Oregon for a variety of collaboration efforts and to help rural districts better connect with policymakers in Salem.

UMESD hires new alternative education director

The Umatilla-Morrow Education Service District is proud to announce the hiring of Doug Gall as its new Director of Alternative Education. Gall will begin his new role in August. Gall, who’s been teaching fourth grade in the Umatilla School District since 2008, replaces Scott Lathrop, who resigned in June after seven years with the UMESD.

State Board gives thumbs up to UMESD-UBESD merger

After almost a year of planning, hurdles and hearings, a merger between the Umatilla-Morrow and Union-Baker education service districts is a reality, thanks to the thumbs up from the state Board of Education this morning. The two ESDs will become the new InterMountain ESD on May 31, 2011.
